The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) will start an evaluation of basic medical education in autumn 2016. The evaluation will be carried out during 2016 and 2017 in line with the decision (12 May 2016) of the Higher Education Evaluation Committee, which operates under the auspices of FINEEC. The purpose of the evaluation is to provide information about the strengths of education, as well as good practices and development needs, in line with the principle of enhancement-led evaluation.

The evaluation will focus on basic medical education offered in Finnish universities. Medical education is provided by five universities: University of Helsinki, University of Eastern Finland, University of Oulu, University of Tampere, and University of Turku.

FINEEC will appoint the evaluation planning team during autumn 2016. The team will be responsible for preparing a proposal for the project plan to the Evaluation Committee. The plan will outline the objectives and targets of the evaluation, as well as the evaluation methods and a preliminary schedule. In spring 2017, the Evaluation Committee will appoint an international evaluation team to implement the evaluation.
